76 Days Adrift

76 Days Adrift

From Executive Producer Ang Lee comes 76 Days Adrift—a profoundly immersive documentary that plunges you into the heart of one man’s extraordinary survival story. Steven Callahan, the author of the New York Times bestseller Adrift: 76 Days Lost at Sea, recounts the night of February 4, 1982, when a catastrophic collision with a whale left his boat sinking in the dead of night. With the Atlantic Ocean surging into his vessel, Steven had only moments to grab what he could before launching himself into the dark, unforgiving sea in a life raft, clutching a basic emergency kit. For an astonishing 76 days, that fragile inflatable raft became Steven’s entire world as he drifted helplessly across the vast expanse of the Atlantic. Forced to confront his deepest fears, limitations, and the raw power of nature, he discovered an inner strength he never knew he possessed. Directed by Joe Wein and set to a haunting score by Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump, 76 Days Adrift is more than just a survival story—it’s a powerful meditation on human endurance, resilience, and the profound connection between man and nature.

GIANT, the 5-star critically acclaimed play starring John Lithgow (Killers of the Flower Moon, The Crown) as Roald Dahl, comes to the big screen. Winner of 3 Olivier Awards® including Best Play and a Tony Award® for Best Actor in a Play (John Lithgow), the production was filmed live in London’s West End ahead of its sold-out Broadway run. The stellar cast includes Aya Cash (The Boys, The Franchise, You’re the Worst), Elliot Levey (Cold War, Patriots, Good) and Rachael Stirling (The Divine Mrs S). A world-famous children’s author under threat. A battle of wills in the wake of scandal. And one chance to make amends...It’s the summer of 1983, The Witches is about to hit the shelves and Roald Dahl is making last-minute edits. But the outcry at his recent, explicitly antisemitic article won’t die down. Across a single afternoon at his family home, and rocked by an unexpectedly explosive confrontation, Dahl is forced to choose: make a public apology or risk his name and reputation. Inspired by real events, GIANT explores with dark humour the difference between considered opinion and dangerous rhetoric offering a complicated portrait of a fiendishly charismatic icon.

Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World

Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World

NR

If poetry had a pop icon, Mary Oliver would be it. Celebrated best-selling poet, Pulitzer Prize-winner, lover of dogs and long walks in the woods, openly queer but intensely private, Oliver was America’s unlikely contemporary mystic, stalking the ponds and forests of Cape Cod for nearly fifty years in order to open herself – and her readers – to the known and unknowable world. From a lonely childhood to literary fame, Oliver’s life was shaped by devotion to nature, paying attention, and the long journey toward learning to love and to be loved. Her poems inspire liberals and conservatives, atheists and believers, naturalists and urbanites, speaking directly to contemporary anxieties about attention, presence, and the human relationship with the natural world – issues that feel especially pressing in an era of climate crisis, digital distraction, and social fragmentation. Featuring interviews with her close friends, including John Waters, never-before-seen personal photos, notebooks, and correspondence from her archive, and recitations of her work by Stephen Colbert, Lucy Dacus, Steve Buscemi, and Oprah Winfrey, Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World considers the poet’s long lifetime of work in context, capturing the uniqueness of her world and the natural beauty that inspired her.

Narrated by Elizabeth Banks and Hugh Jackman, directed by award-winning documentary filmmaker (and Olympian) Mary Mazzio, and produced by Mazzio along with Allison Abner (writer for Narcos, West Wing, Imperfect Women) and Atlanta Hawks owner and NBA All-Star, Grant Hill, in partnership with Skydance Sports and Paramount's Republic Pictures, Mighty Mary chronicles an amazing group of "we eat nails for breakfast" type of women: the first all-women's sailing team to contend for the famed America's Cup, the holy grail for one of sport's most elite and exclusive racing events. This team was groundbreaking, beginning with an advertisement in the New York Times (prompting hilarious responses from a wide swath of Americana who thought they might have what it takes to sail in the America's Cup, including a woman flexing in a bikini next to a cactus). From there, a group of world class and Olympic sailors as well as Olympic rowers came together, a team which included a deaf sailor, a Native Hawaiian sailor, and the first African-American sailor to ever win an America's Cup race (as a coach of this novice, erstwhile team). What was dismissed as a publicity stunt turned into something unimaginable. The crew (sailing aboard Mighty Mary) stunningly eliminated Stars and Stripes from contention, helmed by four-time America's Cup winner Dennis Conner ("Mr. America's Cup"). However, a secret backroom deal the night before the race upended that result. This is a true underdog story about a team which reshaped what could be possible in a sport that had long been inaccessible.

Mona Lisa (4k Restoration)

The brilliant breakthrough film by writer-director Neil Jordan journeys into the dark heart of the London underworld to weave a gripping, noir-infused love story. Bob Hoskins received a multitude of honors—including an Oscar nomination—for his touchingly vulnerable, not-so-tough-guy portrayal of George, recently released from prison and hired by a sinister mob boss (Michael Caine) to chauffeur call girl Simone (Cathy Tyson, in a celebrated performance) between high-paying clients. George’s fascination with the elegant, enigmatic Simone leads him on a dangerous quest through the city’s underbelly, where love is a weakness to be exploited and betrayed. Jordan’s colorful dialogue and eye for evocatively surreal details lend a dreamlike sheen to Mona Lisa, an unconventionally romantic tale of damaged people searching for tenderness in an unforgiving world.

Sixties Film Festival

Sixties Film Festival

Get far out JPT Sixties Film Festival! 10 Films. 7 Days. 1 Fantastic decade of Film. 1960+ reasons to attend. Transport back to the iconic era of 1960's cinema- in all of its tumultuous, revolutionary, yet forever cool character and style. The 1960s film era was a time of massive change. Old studio rules broke down. New directors made edgy art. Sex, blood, and social protest hit the big screen... It was the time of "New Hollywood" where artistic mavericks like Mike Nichols, Dennis Hopper, and Sergio Leone challenged the established norms of filmmaking. The decade saw the draconian Hayes Code of moral censorship in cinema die, allowing portrayals of the human condition hitherto only hinted at. In a deeply divided age marked by political turmoil, the global struggle for civil rights, and social upheaval on an unprecedented scale- there was one uniting force: damn good movies! Many (like Quentin Tarantino) say the 70's or 30's are the best decade of movies ever produced... Obviously (somewhat) subjective, but the 1960's was maybe the most important decade of filmmaking for the doors of craft and creativity it busted wide open. Choosing just 10 films for this mini-fest was also a tumultuous endeavor, but we've programmed a selection of 10 incredible films that really represent the decade. All of these truly boss films are presented in the best format available: A Hard Day's Night (1964) featuring a Live Beatles Tribute by Studio Two: Friday, September 4th- Music @ 7:00, Movie @ 8:00.
