Come and see a screening of the independently made science fiction film 2051: The Return Project, the first feature film from Utica-based filmmaker Dennis Dewey, two years in the making and featuring performers local to the Utica area. A cautionary tale set in the near future about the first downloaded human brain and neural system, the story was inspired by two books about Artificial Intelligence and follows Dr. Richard Calbert, the world’s leading pioneer in the field of brain-computer interface and director of the Humanistic Artificial Intelligence Lab who directs a research program called “The Return Project,” which entails the download to digital storage of a complete human brain and neural network and developing a way to communicate with that brain through voice emulation software. Capitolfest is Central New York’s 35mm classic film festival, screening rarely-seen silent and early talking movies from around the turn-of-the-20th Century into the late 1930s. Capitolfest offers a generous mix of movies shown via 35mm films and digital prints from archives such as the Library of Congress, the Museum of Modern Art, the George Eastman Museum, and UCLA Film & Television Archive, and the British Film Institute as well as studios such as Universal, Warner Brothers, Sony, and Disney. This year's festival will feature tribute stars Charlie Ruggles & Skeets Gallagher and will be held August 14, 15, 16, 2026. Capitolfest attendees are invited to attend the Pre-glow movie on Thursday, August 13 at 7:30. (Title t.b.a.; separate admission charged). As in prior years, the festival will consist of 8 "sessions". Each session is generally comprised of two feature length films with a handful of short features to fill out the session. There will be three sessions (1, 2, 3) on Friday, three session (4, 5, 6) on Saturday and two session (7, 8) on Sunday. We request that patrons purchase registrations for ONE registrant per transaction and please provide the *name of the registrant* (as opposed to the purchaser) for each individual transaction. Registrations can be purchased for any number of sessions, from single sessions tickets to "full festival," 8-session ticket passes. In each case, what sessions attendees redeem their tickets for will be entirely up to the registrant allowing for flexibility and ease of use. Early Bird Pricing will be offered through May 1.
